Brookings Hillcrest Park Pickleball Court Windscreen Mural

The Brookings Public Arts Commission is seeking designs for a vinyl wrap to be applied to a windscreen at the new Pickleball Courts in Hillcrest Park. This opportunity is open to amateur and professional artists of all levels and all ages, working in any medium, provided the final artwork can be translated into a digital reproduction on a 2-dimensional vinyl wrap. Note that red fades faster than cool colors and artists should consider this when designing.

One artist will be chosen for the art wrap and awarded $1,000.00, which includes licensing rights enabling the Commission to reproduce the final design on the pickleball windscreen. The design should be conducive to an L-shaped windscreen, which can consist of one complete image or two separate images. Artists may submit up to four designs. The general theme is to celebrate arts and wellness in Brookings. The windscreen is intended to be installed before September 2024.

Final artwork must be submitted as a high-quality digital file by 5:00 p.m. on August 11, 2024. If artwork is not inherently digital, artists must submit a high-resolution scan or photograph suitable for use, with a minimum of 300 dpi. The windscreen dimensions are 128.3 feet by 137.3 feet. Applicants must be from South Dakota or bordering states, or attending a school/university within South Dakota. Submitted works must be entirely original and not created by or with the help of artificial intelligence. Applicants cannot be members of the Brookings Public Arts Commission. The City of Brookings will be responsible for printing and installation. The windscreen may be removed at any time at the discretion of the City.
