About This Call
The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo's Art in Public Places Program, in partnership with the City of Toledo Transportation Division, the Broadway Corridor Coalition, and the Sofia Quintero Arts and Cultural Center, seeks to commission artistically designed infrastructure enhancements for a new construction project along the Broadway Street corridor in the Old South End, Toledo. The project budget is $150,000, with construction beginning in 2024.
Artists with experience integrating public art into transportation and civic infrastructure projects are encouraged to apply. The selected artist or team will collaborate closely with the project management team to develop conceptual designs for artwork, including identifying site(s), content, scale, and media. Artists must be willing to learn in-depth about the community and the Old South End neighborhood's history and culture, participate on the design team with community members, and utilize this information in conceptual development. Up to three finalists will be selected and invited to create a proposal for the site.
Submissions must include: a one-page letter of interest, current resume(s), 10 digital images (JPEGs, no more than 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi), an annotated image list with title, date, medium, size, location, and commission budget if applicable, 2-3 examples of community engagement projects coordinated with past public art projects, and a list of at least three professional references with complete contact information. The project is open to artists in the continental United States age 18 and over, with preference for artists living within 100 miles of Toledo. Artist teams from multiple disciplines are eligible. Deadline for submissions is September 12, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
