About This Call

Brighton Boulevard is the main artery through the River North (RiNo) Neighborhood, bordered on the south by 29th Street and entry to Downtown Denver, on the north by 44th Street and the National Western Center, on the west by the Platte River, and on the east by the railroad tracks. Historically home to industrial businesses, the boulevard is experiencing an exciting mix of new development and adaptive reuse. The streetscape redevelopment project will take place between 29th Street and 44th Street along Brighton Boulevard.

The selection panel seeks unique, one-of-a-kind art appropriate for Brighton Boulevard and the diverse community that utilizes it. Artwork should speak to the industrial nature of the area, the diverse and creative communities in and around the neighborhood, and the nearby Platte River. The selection panel is open to artwork in all media and materials, including light and sound, and is looking for artists who can demonstrate experience integrating artwork into the built environment. All artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials due to exposure to weather, physical stresses, and potential vandalism.

The budget for this commission is up to $250,000 USD from the City of Denver's One Percent for Art Ordinance. Funds cover all costs including design fee, consultation fees, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, site modifications, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency. Prevailing wage requirements apply for all work on city property. Applicants may apply as a single artist or multi-person collaborative group. Artists working in any media are eligible; previous public art experience is not required, and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Up to three semifinalists will be selected and receive an honorarium of up to $1,000 to prepare and present a proposal in person. A finalist will be selected for the commission following interviews or proposal review. Applicants must submit eight digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest no longer than 2,000 characters via www.callforentry.org.
