About This Call
Brand Library & Art Center is accepting submissions from artists, curators, or artist groups for exhibitions scheduled in late 2017 and 2018. The organization is a branch of the City of Glendale Library, Arts & Culture Department and has been a cornerstone for the arts in Southern California since 1956. It focuses on visual arts and music, offering free services and programs including a collection of over 110,000 items, exhibitions, concerts, lectures, dance performances, films, and hands-on craft programs. The Skylight Gallery and Atrium Gallery provide 3,200 square feet of professional exhibition space.
Brand Library & Art Center is focused on showcasing recent artwork by established and emerging artists currently working in Southern California, though curatorial proposals from outside the area will be considered. The organization welcomes diverse, high-quality proposals in all media. Submissions must include a letter of introduction, artist statement(s), a resume or description of the artist group, and visual representation of original artwork produced within the last four years. Curators must include a curatorial proposal clearly stating the exhibition's purpose, artist selection rationale, and an exhibition plan demonstrating familiarity with the space. Proposals should also include ideas for public programming such as panel discussions or workshops. Individual artists do not need to include a curatorial proposal or exhibition plan.
Submissions will be reviewed in late April/May with notifications by the end of May 2017. The Gallery Director will invite selected artists, curators, or groups for interviews, which do not guarantee final selection. Selections are based on artwork quality, alignment with the Brand Library & Art Center mission, and the desire to present a diverse yet cohesive exhibition schedule. Interviews generally take place in the artist's studio or at Brand Library & Art Center. Individual artists will be curated into group exhibitions if selected. Artists or groups who have previously exhibited at Brand Library & Art Center are not eligible for resubmission for four years, with limited exceptions. Works previously displayed at the venue are not eligible for re-exhibition.
