About This Call
Boulder Open Studios 2016 is a juried exhibition running October 1-9, 2016. Artists must apply online by March 28, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The entry fee is $35.00.
Applicants must submit 5 images of different artworks completed since 2013 that are representative of work to be shown during Open Studios. Your preferred image should be placed first, as it will appear on the website and tour map. Accepted artists' year-round studios must be located within the specified geography shown on the floor/site plan map. Contact Open Studios before applying if unsure about studio location eligibility.
Accepted artists must derive a portion of their income from their art and have a minimum of 12 pieces to exhibit (6 for labor-intensive media). New work is highly encouraged. Artists must be present in their studios during all event hours with a name badge, provide an educational component by demonstrating their creative process and materials or displaying basic steps in completing their work, and maintain a setting conducive to public visitation. Artists must possess required City, County, and State Sales Tax Licenses and collect and pay sales taxes. All email communication must be read and responded to in a timely manner.
Accepted artists must place one artwork in the preview exhibition at Boulder Public Library. Artwork must be ready to hang and may not exceed 40" x 40" (exceptions for 3D works). Drop-off is Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. No artwork will be accepted after drop-off time. All artwork displayed at the library must be for sale, with Open Studios retaining a 40% commission from sales. Artwork will be picked up Monday, October 10, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For single artist studios, no other artist may display work. For group studios, participating artists must display large, prominent signs in their own space. At the conclusion of the tour, artists are encouraged to donate 10% or more of sales generated through participation.
