About This Call
The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA), in conjunction with the Gallery at The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, is presenting the third edition of the juried exhibition, The Book as Art, at the AJC Decatur Book Festival. The exhibition runs from July 24 – September 18, 2015, with the Festival dates of September 4–6, 2015. The DAA will sponsor a gala opening on Thursday, September 3, 2015.
The Book as Art emphasizes the art form that can be a delight to the eye, a pleasure to the hand, and made tangible in forms that introduce new interpretations of an ancient concept as well as questions and ideas on 21st-century form and format. The exhibition showcases beautifully made volumes, sculptural interpretations, and one-of-a-kind approaches to the book format. Artists are encouraged to submit interpretations that hang from the gallery wall to help create a more dynamic and balanced installation. The Gallery's location on the Decatur Square is ideally accessible to the more than 85,000 attendees at the Festival.
Eligibility is international. Artists may enter original or limited edition original or altered books. Collaborative projects are eligible. The entry fee is $30.00 for up to three items, with up to five images per item. Awards include: First Place $1,000, Second Place $700, Third Place $500, and Merit Award $100. Purchase awards are being solicited. An online catalogue is anticipated. Sales are encouraged, with the DAA collecting a 25% commission on all artwork sold. The 7% Georgia sales tax will be added at the point of sale. Work will be insured for the duration of the exhibition. Artists are advised to arrange their own shipping insurance. A program of associated events will be held during the exhibition, and all participants will receive a full schedule. The DAA will sponsor a preview and juror's talk on July 24, 2015.
