Body and Machine 2016: Kinetic & Interactive Art

Body and Machine 2016 is a juried exhibition of kinetic and interactive art held at the Northrup King Building 3rd Floor Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Make it Move, an organization devoted to the promotion and exhibition of kinetic and interactive art, is hosting this as their second juried exhibition. The three-juror panel includes Minneapolis artists Brad Jirka, Bill Klaila, and Jack Pavlik.

This exhibition is open to artists over the age of 18 working in kinetic and interactive media from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Students, professional artists, collaboratives, and all those kinetically inclined are welcome to apply. Artwork must be kinetic or interactive in some way and must relate to the concept of human interaction with machines. Submitted work should have been completed in the last three years. Work of all types will be considered: web-based work, analog systems, hand-cranked, and robotic. Artists who have previously participated in Body and Machine are encouraged to apply, however previously submitted works will not be considered. Work submitted must not be dangerous or hazardous; artwork using electrical arcing, flames, flammable gases, caustic or acidic liquids, or otherwise hazardous materials will not be considered. All sizes of work are acceptable, though installation work space is limited and pedestal and wall-mounted work is strongly encouraged.

Entry fee is $25. Submissions must be made online through Callforentry.org with up to 3 images and 3 corresponding video links. Notification of acceptance will be made by phone by March 11, 2016, with others notified by email by the same date. Awards are offered in three categories: The Mechanical Prize ($200), The Digital Prize ($200), and The Biomorphic Prize ($200). The preview reception is April 1, public opening April 2, and the exhibition closes April 24, 2016. Artwork pickup is April 24-25 after 6pm at the NKB 3rd Floor Gallery.
