About This Call
Body and Machine is the first exhibition of kinetic and interactive art held by Make it Move at the Northrup King Building in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Make it Move is a new organization devoted to the promotion and exhibition of kinetic and interactive art. This is a juried exhibition with a three-juror panel consisting of Minneapolis artists Brad Jirka, Bill Klaila, and Jack Pavlik.
The exhibition is open to artists over the age of 18 working in kinetic and interactive media from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Artwork must be kinetic or interactive in some way and must relate to the concept of human interaction with machines. Work submitted must not be dangerous or hazardous; artwork using electrical arcing, flames, flammable gases, caustic or acidic liquids, etc. will not be considered. Students, professional artists, and collaboratives are welcome to apply. Work of all sizes will be considered, and installation work is acceptable, though space for this type of work is limited. Pedestal and wall-mounted work is strongly encouraged.
Submissions must be made online through Callforentry.org with up to 3 images and 3 corresponding video links. Entry fee is $20. The submission deadline is January 22, 2015. Notification of acceptance will be made by phone by January 31, 2015; others will be notified by email by the same date. Awards are offered in three categories: The Mechanical Prize, The Digital Prize, and The Biomorphic Prize, each with 1st Place $250 and 2nd Place $100. The preview reception is March 5, 2015, with public opening March 7, 2015, and the exhibition closes March 22, 2015.
