Bluets

BLUETS invites entries in any medium exploring the theme of the color blue, inspired by writer Maggie Nelson's concept of falling "under a spell" with the color. Blue is commonly associated with harmony, faithfulness, confidence, distance, infinity, the imagination, cold, and sometimes sadness. The exhibition will be held at GearBox Gallery in Oakland, CA from August 3–26, 2017, with an opening reception on August 4 from 5–9 pm.

Eligibility is open to artists over 18 living or working in Northern California. Entries must be original work created between 2013 and 2017 in any media, with no size limitations except that works must fit through a standard doorway. Up to 3 entries may be submitted per application for a non-refundable fee of $35. Work must be framed (when applicable) and ready to hang, with wire, d-rings, or cleats. Artists must provide means of display for audio or video works. Accepted entries will be juried by Jack Fischer, principal of Jack Fischer Gallery in San Francisco. The juror will make final determinations on acceptance, and notification will be sent by email on July 11, 2017.

Accepted artwork must be hand-delivered to the gallery at 770 West Grand Ave, Oakland, CA between 11am–5pm on Sunday, July 30, 2017. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup. Artwork must be picked up between 11am–5pm on Sunday, August 27, 2017; work remaining after 15 days becomes gallery property and is subject to $10 per day storage fees. Artists are encouraged to sell work, which cannot be removed during the exhibition. GearBox Gallery retains 40% of sales and a 25% referral commission on sales within three months after the exhibit. Awards include a Juror's Award featuring the artist in a future GearBox Gallery exhibit and a GearBox Gallery Award offering exhibition in the Inner Room.
