About This Call
Blue Sky Gallery and Sitka Center for Art and Ecology announce a residency for an emerging or mid-career photographer in Spring 2019. The residency is available only to Blue Sky Gallery photographers who have been part of the Drawers program or have been an exhibitor at the gallery.
The residency takes place on the Sitka Center campus in Otis, OR, from April 1 – May 2, 2019 (exact dates TBD). Residency includes accommodation in a studio apartment, access to a private separate studio space, and a $250 stipend from the Kinsman Foundation. Residents have access to wireless internet, the Center's library, other artists and ecologists in residence, and the natural beauty of the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area, including Cascade Head itself and the Salmon River Estuary. Please note there is no darkroom facility at Sitka Center.
Work created during the residency may be showcased on the Drawers Exhibition wall in the Blue Sky library in Spring/Summer 2019, and the artist may present a short artist talk in Spring 2019 (mutually agreeable date TBD). Both opportunities are optional and not required. Applicants must submit 8-15 images representative of their work, an artist statement (4,000 characters max), an up-to-date resume or CV, and a one-page letter of interest addressing how the residency would benefit them and how their work relates to the Sitka Center's mission. Applicants will be notified of a decision in mid-January 2019.
