About This Call
Blooms is a juried exhibition open to all 2D media (excluding photography and digital) created by artists in the United States. The show embraces the feeling of spring, when flowers are blooming and things begin growing and changing again. This could be interpreted literally as paintings of flowers or more abstractly/evocatively. Pieces that showcase "blooms," the popular watermedia technique of dropping pigment or water into another wet area, are also welcome. The juror is Bill Lane.
Work must not have been exhibited in a previous Rhode Island Watercolor Society juried show, must have been completed within the last 10 years, and may not be copied from copyrighted material or created under the direct guidance of another or by following a tutorial. Work may have been done in a class or workshop using only reference material belonging to the sole artist. Pieces may not exceed 48 inches on the longest side (including frame). Acceptable mediums include watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oils, ink, casein, collage, mixed media, monotype, and egg tempera on any 2D surface. Work must be presented professionally with framed work under glass/Plexiglas and wired with no wire or hanger showing when hung.
The exhibition runs April 20 - May 24, with a show opening reception on May 27. Notification of acceptance is April 4. Pick up date is May 24, with return shipping available May 24 - June 15. The show takes place both online and in person at the gallery in Pawtucket. Entry fee is $20 for non-members, $15 for members. Submit 1-3 images at $20 each for non-members, $15 each for members. If the work is sold, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society receives 35% of the sale.
