Bloomington Veterans Memorial

Bloomington Remembers Veterans, Inc. in partnership with the City of Bloomington invites experienced teams of artists, landscape architects, engineers, and related professionals to submit qualifications for the design and installation of a veterans memorial on the Bloomington Civic Plaza east lawn. The memorial will honor and pay tribute to people who served in all branches of military service and will serve as a place for remembrance, reflection, education, and community events.

Eligibility: This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is open to experienced public artists, landscape architects, and artist teams who have completed at least one commissioned outdoor memorial or historic monument with a budget of $300,000 or more in the past ten years. Applicants from the United States are welcome but should have understanding of or experience with installations addressing Minnesota's climate and ecosystem. Finalists must be able to attend an in-person interview and design presentation.

Project Budget and Timeline: The intended budget is $700,000, covering all design modifications, fabrication, engineering, installation, foundations, infrastructure, site preparations, lighting, site visits, transportation, insurance, permit fees, and panels recognizing individual veterans. The RFQ deadline is March 12, 2020 at 12:00 PM CST. Four finalists will be selected by April 13, 2020 and will present designs the week of May 18, 2020. Each finalist receives a $2,500 design stipend. The selected artist/team will be notified the week of June 6, 2020, with anticipated installation in summer/fall 2021. Applicants must submit a one-page letter of interest, one-page project references, one-page biographical information, and up to 10 work sample images (JPEG format, 1200 pixels on longest side, less than 5 MB). Do not submit a project proposal or design at this time.
