About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach is commissioning an artist or artist team for a work-for-hire mural at Blanche Ely High School (1201 NW 6th Ave, Pompano Beach, FL 33060). The selected artist(s) should have experience with community engagement public art projects. The mural design will be conceptualized through community engagement activities with high school students and must include the school's new logo along with names of esteemed coaches, including Coach Melvin Randal.
The artist(s) shall conduct a minimum of three community engagement activities with the high school. These engagement activities should teach students about public art and collaboration. One community engagement activity will include the installation of the mural, where the artist will work with selected students to install the lower portion of the wall. Students will not be allowed on scaffolds, ladders, or cherry pickers. The artist(s) shall document the community engagement aspect through photography, writing, video, or other artistic forms. All equipment, materials, and resources required shall be supplied by the artist. The artist will work with the school's art teacher to coordinate engagement activities and student involvement.
The purchase budget is $23,000.00, which includes all insurance, taxes, fees, permits, and installation. Shortlisted artists must submit a detailed budget list. Three artists will be paid an honorarium of $200.00 to create and present a detailed proposal via Zoom, including a detailed budget and community engagement activity plan. Applicants must submit a resume or CV (including experience in community engagement projects, residencies, teaching, and art projects), 3-5 digital portfolio images relating to the project, and an experience statement (maximum 2000 characters) describing experience with similar community-based projects. The project is open to professional artists located in the Tri-County area. Selected artist(s) must meet Broward School Level 1 Clearance Background Check requirements.
