About This Call
Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th, a contemporary art center and gallery in San Diego, California, invites regional and national artists to submit original works of art for the 2022 annual "Blackout" national exhibition. Works featuring dominant black or black in a prominent way are eligible. The exhibition runs October 29, 2022 through December 2, 2022, with an opening reception on Saturday, October 29 from 4pm-8pm.
Eligible mediums include acrylic, oils, watercolor, drawing, photography, assemblage, collage, encaustic, mixed media, fiber art, and 3D art that fits on an 18" x 18" pedestal. Artwork must be original, ready-to-hang with two D-rings affixed to the back, and available for sale. Minimum size is 10" and maximum size is 72". The exhibit does not accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, or installations. Artists may submit up to 6 pieces. Entry fee is $35 for the first entry and $5 for each additional image.
Selected works will be published in the Ashton Gallery full-color exhibition catalog. Three awards and two honorable mentions will be given by juror Vallo Riberto, Chair of Contemporary Art Committee at San Diego Museum of Art & Professor of Art at Southwestern College. Awards include Best in Show (featured on catalog cover), First Place (double page spread), Juror's Choice (double page spread), and Honorable Mention (double page spread). $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. Juror's decision notification will be sent via email by end of day Saturday, September 24, 2022. If artwork sells, Ashton Gallery receives 50% commission. Hand-delivered work is accepted September 24 through October 14 during business hours. Shipping deadline is October 6, 2022. Hand-pick up begins December 6, 2022, and unsold artwork shipping begins December 12, 2022.
