About This Call
Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th, a contemporary art center and gallery in San Diego, California, invites regional and national artists to submit original works of art for the annual "Blackout" national exhibition. Works must feature dominant black or black in a prominent way. Artists may submit up to 6 pieces.
Entry fees are $35 for the first entry and $5 for each additional image. Eligible mediums include acrylic, oils, watercolor, drawing, photography, assemblage, collage, encaustic, mixed media, fiber art, and 3D art that fits on an 18" x 18" pedestal. Artwork must be between 10" and 72" in size, original, and ready for sale. All artwork must be wired and ready-to-hang with two D-rings on the back. The exhibit does not accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, or installations.
Selected works will be published in the Ashton Gallery full-color exhibition catalog. Three awards and two honorable mentions will be given by juror Daniel Foster, with $1,000 in cash prizes awarded. Best in Show will be featured on the catalog cover, and First Place and Juror's Choice will receive double page spreads. The exhibition runs November 4 - December 1, 2023, with an opening reception on Saturday, November 4 from 4pm-7pm. Notification of the juror's decision will be sent via email by September 25, 2023. If artwork sells, Ashton Gallery receives a 50% commission.
