BlackOut

Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th, a contemporary art center and gallery in San Diego, California, invites regional and national artists to submit original works for the 2018 "BlackOut" exhibition. The exhibition features work with dominant black or black in a prominent way. Categories accepted include acrylic, oil, watercolor, drawing, photography, assemblage, collage, encaustic, mixed media, fiber art, and 3D art that fits on an 18" x 18" pedestal. The gallery does not accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, or installations. Submissions must be original work with "D" ring hardware required for installation. All entries must be for sale, with Ashton Gallery retaining 50% commission.

Selected works will be published in the Ashton Gallery Full Color Exhibition Catalog, available for viewing on opening night and available for ordering through print on demand. Three awards will be given by juror Daniel Foster, plus two honorable mentions. Best in Show will be featured on the catalog cover, First Place and Jurors Choice will each receive a double page spread, and Honorable Mentions will receive a double page. A total of $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. Daniel Foster is a conceptual and multi-disciplinary visual artist and poet with a 30-year career in arts and museum leadership in San Diego and Southern California.

Entry fee is $35 for the first two entries and $5 for each additional image (up to 6 total). Submit 2-6 images online through CaFÉ before 11:59 PM MST on August 26, 2018. Notification of acceptance will be made by email by September 10, 2018. Exhibition dates are October 27 - November 17, 2018, with opening reception on October 27 from 6-8 pm. All artwork must remain in the show until closing. Hand-delivered work is accepted October 1-19, 2018 during business hours. Hand-pick up begins November 17, 2018 during regular business hours. Unsold artwork shipping begins November 26, 2018.
