Black Heritage through Visual Rhythms (BHTVR)

Black Heritage through Visual Rhythms (BHTVR) is a juried art exhibition open to artists of African descent across the United States. Prominent artists submit work in the following categories: Photography, Textiles, Drawing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Paintings, and Mixed Media. Participants are recognized at the Artist's Reception and Awards Ceremony, a gathering that celebrates the diversity of African descendants in the visual arts.

Applicants must be 18 years or older and of African descent. Each artist may submit 1 to 3 images. Artwork must have been completed in the past three years and has not been shown in previous BHTVR National Art exhibits. Sculptures cannot weigh over 40 pounds; two-dimensional artwork cannot be wider than 7 feet (64 inches). Images must be submitted as JPEG or JPG files at 300 dpi x 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5 MB per image. Each entry requires the artist's name, artwork title, date of completion, medium, size, price/insurance value, artist statement (not to exceed 250 words), and a headshot photo for the catalog. Political or politically biased art entries may be excluded by the Dayton Art Institute.

Entry fee is $60 for up to 3 entries, payable through CallForEntry.org via credit card or PayPal, or by check or money order payable to AAVAG (840 Germantown Street, Dayton, OH 45402). All entries are reviewed by a panel of 3 judges. Awards include Best of Show ($3,000 and a one-person focused exhibition at the Dayton Art Institute), 1st Place 2D ($1,000), 2nd Place 2D ($500), 1st Place 3D ($1,000), and 2nd Place 3D ($500).
