About This Call
Black Box Gallery is hosting a black and white juried group photography exhibition. The show explores the classic, nostalgic and dynamic qualities of black and white photography, examining its important tradition of luminous, well-crafted and thoughtfully composed imagery alongside contemporary photographers' modern voices and aesthetics.
Juror Todd Johnson is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery. He received his MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has served as a photography portfolio reviewer for Photolucida and juror for The Drawers Program at Blue Sky Gallery. Johnson has worked as an independent photography curator organizing shows by international photographers and has been a college photography instructor for 15 years in Portland.
Submissions must include 1-5 images in high resolution Tiff or JPEG format. Entry fee is $35.00. Up to 5 applications are allowed per artist. The juror will select 24 photographs for exhibition at the gallery and an additional 30 photographs for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books. Exhibition dates are February 1-20, 2019, with an opening reception on Friday, February 1, 6-8:00 pm.
Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all selected works. Prints are produced on an Epson Stylus Pro archival inkjet printer on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper in a color-calibrated environment. Exhibition prints are kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, with 50% going to the photographer. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing of files will happen without prior consent and agreement. Artists may request that prints be for exhibition and promotion only, not for sale.
