About This Call

Black Box Gallery is hosting a juried group photography exhibition themed around black and white photography. The gallery seeks a diversity of photographic works exploring the classic, nostalgic, and dynamic qualities of black and white imagery, including contemporary interpretations that engage with the tradition's history while bringing modern voices and aesthetics.

Juror Todd Johnson is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery, with an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has served as a portfolio reviewer for Photolucida, Critical Mass, Dodho Magazine, and Blue Sky Gallery, and has worked as an independent curator for exhibitions at institutions including Linfield College, Gallery Homeland, and The Waiting Room Gallery. Johnson has 20 years of experience in arts education and administration, with his own photographic work exhibited nationally and regionally.

Submissions must include 1-5 images. Entry fee is $35.00. The deadline is January 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Exhibition dates are February 1-20, 2021. Black Box Gallery will be open by appointment only during February due to COVID-19. The juror will select 24 photographs for exhibition at the gallery and an additional 30 for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase. Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for selected works using archival materials and custom printing. Selected photographers must provide high-resolution TIFF or JPEG files. Exhibition prints will be retained in the gallery's flat files after the show for future promotion and sale. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on sales, with 50% going to the photographer. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing occurs without prior consent. Artists may request that prints be for exhibition and promotion only, not for sale.
