About This Call
Black Box Gallery is hosting a black and white juried group photography exhibition. The show explores the classic, nostalgic, and dynamic qualities of black and white photography, examining its important tradition of luminous, well-crafted, and thoughtfully composed imagery alongside contemporary photographers' modern voices and aesthetics.
Juror Todd Johnson is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery, with an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has served as a portfolio reviewer for Photolucida and juried The Drawers Program for Blue Sky Gallery. Johnson has worked as an independent photography curator organizing shows by international photographers in Portland and has been a college photography instructor for 15 years.
Submissions must include 1-5 images. Entry fee is $35.00. Up to 5 applications are allowed per artist. The exhibition will feature 24 photographs selected by the juror for in-gallery display (February 1-20, 2020, with opening reception Friday February 7, 6-8:00 pm) and an additional 30 photographs for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books.
Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions. Prints are produced on an Epson Stylus Pro archival inkjet printer on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper in a color-calibrated environment. Exhibition prints are kept in flat files after the show for future sale and promotion. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, with 50% going to the photographer. Artists may request that prints not be for sale and be used for exhibition and promotion only. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing will occur without prior consent and agreement.
