About This Call
A juried exhibition of black and white photography. The exhibition explores the classic, nostalgic and dynamic qualities of black and white photography, which has an important tradition of luminous, well-crafted and thoughtfully composed imagery. Contemporary photographers are invited to participate in this dialog of history and tradition, bringing their own modern voice, visions and aesthetics.
Juror: Todd Johnson, an experimental and conceptual photographer living and working in Portland, Oregon. Johnson received his MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has been an active photographer, educator and curator for more than twenty years. He is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery.
Exhibition Details: 24 photographs will be selected for exhibition at the gallery (February 1-20, 2017). An additional 30 photographs will be selected for exhibition in the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books. Opening reception: Friday, February 3, 6-8:00 pm.
Entry Requirements: Up to 5 applications allowed per artist. Entry fee: $35.00. Submit 1-5 images (black and white photography). International eligibility.
Production and Sales: Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions. Selected photographers provide high resolution TIFF or JPEG files. Prints are produced on an Epson Stylus Pro archival inkjet printer on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper. Exhibition prints are kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion.
