About This Call
A juried exhibition of black and white photography. The exhibition explores the classic, nostalgic and dynamic qualities of black and white photography, which has an important tradition of luminous, well-crafted and thoughtfully composed imagery. Contemporary photographers are invited to participate in this dialog of history and tradition, bringing their own modern voice, visions and aesthetics.
Juror: Todd Johnson is an experimental and conceptual photographer living and working in Portland, Oregon. His photographic work uses abstract metaphor, social critique, dark humor and personal narrative. Johnson received his MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has been an active photographer, educator and curator for more than twenty years. He is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery.
Exhibition Details: 24 photographs will be selected for exhibition at the gallery (February 1-20, 2016, with opening reception Friday February 5, 6-8:00 pm). An additional 30 photographs will be selected for exhibition in the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books. Entry fee is $35.00. Submit 1-5 images (minimum 1, maximum 5). Black Box Gallery will provide free printing, matting and framing for selected works. Prints will be kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, with 50% going to the photographer. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing will happen without prior consent and agreement.
