About This Call
Biome: A Queen City Biennial celebrates fine art through community, inclusivity, and biennial exhibition. The inaugural Queen City Biennial invites diverse and compassionate artists to exhibit outdoor and indoor work at Grasslands, a journalism-minded agency located in the Santa Fe Arts District in Denver, Colorado. For this inaugural event, artists are invited to reflect on the theme: Set and Setting. Biomes are complex communities of flora and fauna coexisting within a major habitat. As the species living on this patch of stolen land—creators, doers, makers, dreamers—our very existence defines this biome, this Queen City of the Plains.
Artists selected for the exhibition will receive a $1,000 stipend for their participation, which includes installation, upkeep, and takedown of artwork as well as participation in events. Artists will be invited to participate in and develop workshops, talks, or other experiential happenings over the course of the biennial. Submissions must include at least 3 images reflecting the artist's work, a biography and artist statement, and an original idea for a community engagement happening to complement their work. All accepted work is considered on-loan and must remain for the duration of the exhibit. Outdoor pieces must be weatherproof and able to withstand inclement weather including rain, snow, and sun exposure.
Artists will be selected through jury selection. Proposals that do not have clear connections to the stated themes will not be considered. All work must arrive framed and/or ready to hang/install. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of selected works. Biome cannot assume responsibility for damage or loss to artwork while on display, and insurance is the responsibility of the artist. The exhibition runs from August 19, 2022 through August 19, 2023. Biome is open to local, national, and international artists.
