About This Call
The Decatur Arts Alliance is placing a call for artists to create bicycle racks and benches for the historic Oakhurst business district in Decatur, GA.
Bicycle Rack Project Requirements: Bike racks should be functional, fun, big, and visible. They should be weather resistant to the Georgia climate and accommodate three to eight bicycles. Specific City of Decatur bicycle guidelines are available at http://www.decaturga.com/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=2420
Bench Project Requirements: Benches should be 6 feet in length, 20 inches in depth, and 30 inches in height. Variations in depth are acceptable but height and length must be consistent. Proposed projects must be made of durable materials that are easy to maintain in the southeastern climate.
Artists should submit a proposed budget for design, fabrication, finishing, and transportation of the bench and/or bike rack to the installation site. The budget will be considered as part of the selection process. A review committee comprised of art professionals, representatives from the City of Decatur, Oakhurst business district, and bicycle community will select winning designs based on creativity, artistic merit, functionality, long-term maintenance, durability, budget, and public safety. Work deemed unsuitable for public use will not be accepted. Only completed, ready-to-install work will be accepted. Project concepts, maquettes, and artists' renderings will be considered.
Submissions must include three images per submission clearly showing front, back, and one detail shot. Artists may submit more than one submission for bench and/or bike rack, but each submission must have three images. Please describe the installation method of the bench or bike rack. Selected artists are responsible for transportation to the installation site. Benches and bike racks must be delivered ready, stable, well-fabricated, and installation-ready. The City of Decatur is responsible for all material costs during installation, including final site preparation, plinth, cleanup, and repair of any damage caused during installation.
Entry fee: $10.00 for first entry, $5.00 for each additional entry. Up to 2 applications allowed per artist. Work samples required: 1-3 images.
