About This Call

The City of Westminster is seeking two experienced muralists to create public art for the Big Dry Creek Trail Murals Project. This multi-year initiative will target 12 underpasses along the Big Dry Creek Trail, with two locations selected for the first year on either side of the US 36 underpass. The Big Dry Creek Trail is a 12-mile showcase trail system that winds through the city's riparian and upland prairie ecosystems and is used for exercising, commuting, wildlife viewing, and connecting with nature.

One artist will complete a mural on the west side of the underpass at 350 square feet and receive $2,500 for materials and commission. A second artist will complete a mural on the east side at 800 square feet and receive $7,500 for materials and commission. These amounts are inclusive of all related expenses, including materials and insurance. All mural locations will have enhanced lighting. The City is seeking professional artists over the age of 18 with experience as muralists on Colorado's Front Range.

Applications must include: a current resume (maximum two pages) outlining professional accomplishments and previous murals completed; 4 artwork images representing the artist's original work; a statement of interest (250 words or less) outlining interest in the opportunity and experience with similar projects; and a vision statement (500 words or less) describing the artist's concept for the mural with a rough draft image. The art must be apolitical, non-religious, and not government-centric. No vulgar, profane, discriminatory, violent, or pornographic references are permitted. Three finalists will be selected by June 21st, 2016, and will each receive $200 to submit and present their mural concepts. Final selection will occur by July 11th, 2016, with murals to be completed by August 29th, 2016.
