Big Dry Creek Trail Mural 2017

The City of Westminster is seeking four experienced muralists to complete murals along the Big Dry Creek Trail system. Two artists will paint murals on either side of the underpass along Big Dry Creek Trail under the railroad just east of Wadsworth Parkway (approximately 350 sq. ft. each), and two will paint murals on either side of the underpass under Church Ranch Boulevard on the south end of City Park (approximately 630 sq. ft. each). All murals must have a theme associated with human connection to nature and/or outdoor recreation. Artists hired for the railroad underpass will be paid $2,500 commission and materials. Artists hired for the 104th Avenue underpass will be paid $5,000 commission and materials due to the larger size and added challenge of painting on scaffolding over the creek. These amounts are inclusive of all related expenses, including materials and insurance. The City will provide scaffolding if needed.

This is a three-step selection process. Step 1 requires submission of a complete application by May 31, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MDT, including 5 images (with the option for up to 1 video), a current resume limited to two pages, a statement of interest of 250 words or less, and a vision statement of 500 words or less with a rough draft of the proposed mural design. Six to eight finalists will be selected by June 20, 2017 and compensated $200 each to submit and present their mural concepts in the second week of July. The selection committee will choose winning concepts by July 13, 2017, and murals must be completed by September 30, 2017.

Eligibility is limited to professional artists over 18 years old with experience as muralists in Colorado's Front Range. Artwork must be apolitical, non-religious, and not government-centric. No vulgar, profane, discriminatory, violent, or pornographic references are permitted. The City of Westminster reserves the right to choose anywhere from zero to four artists based on the quality of proposed murals. All submissions must be made online through Callforentry.org.
