About This Call
The City of Westminster is seeking two experienced muralists to complete murals along the Big Dry Creek Trail. One artist will paint a mural on both sides of the underpass at 112th Avenue (approximately 798 sq. ft. total), and one artist will paint a mural on both sides of the underpass at 128th Avenue (approximately 130 sq. ft. total). All murals must have a theme associated with human connection to nature, wellness, literacy, outdoor recreation, City of Westminster history, and human connection.
Artists hired for the 112th Avenue underpass will be paid $5,700 for commission and materials. Artists hired for the 128th Avenue underpass will be paid $1,900 for commission and materials. These amounts are inclusive of all related expenses, including materials and insurance. Scaffolding will be provided if needed. The art must be apolitical, non-religious, and not government-centric. No vulgar, profane, discriminatory, violent, or pornographic references are permitted.
Applications must include: 5 images (with the option for up to 1 video), a current resume (maximum 2 pages) outlining professional accomplishments including previous murals and relevant government contracts, a statement of interest (250 words or less) describing interest in the opportunity and experience with similar projects, and a vision statement (500 words or less) with a rough draft describing the artist's concept for the mural. The selection process includes three steps: initial submissions (April 1 - May 1, 2019), semifinalist presentations with $200 compensation (late May), and final selection by June 6, 2019. Murals must be completed by July 31, 2019. The City reserves the right to select zero to four artists based on proposal quality.
