About This Call
The City of Denver's Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create an original public artwork for Bible Park, located at 6802 E. Yale Ave., Denver, CO 80224. The budget for this commission is approximately $20,000.00 USD. Eligibility is open to artists or artist teams residing in the state of Colorado.
Bible Park is a 66-acre park in the Hampden Neighborhood featuring biking and walking trails, including the Highline Canal Trail, ballfields, tennis courts, exercise stations, and a new playground. The selection panel has identified the park entrance as the preferred location for this public art project, which provides high visibility for park users, pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists on Yale Avenue. Artwork could be located on either side of the entrance to create a sense of arrival and welcome. The panel is interested in vibrant and playful artwork that invokes excitement and provides a sense of place. Artworks could be created using diverse media including paint, sculpture, and mosaic applications. All applicants must consider long-term conservation and maintenance, as this permanent artwork will be accessioned into the Denver Public Art collection. Works should be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for outdoor display.
Applicants must submit six digital images of past work, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. Three to five finalists will be selected to create site-specific proposals and participate in interviews (in-person or virtual). Finalists will receive an honorarium for this work. The selected artist or artist team will work with Denver Public Art Program and Denver Parks and Recreation staff to finalize designs for installation. The $20,000.00 budget is inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and any other project-related expenses. Prevailing wage requirements will apply for all work done on City property. Entry deadline: Tuesday, July 26, 2022, 11:59 p.m. MST.
