About This Call

Business for the Arts Broward is partnering with Florida Purchasing Agency on a mural mentorship program in Lauderdale by the Sea, FL. The project aims to create a vibrant mural on a highly visible wall at 262 Commercial Blvd. under the guidance of Lead Artist Lori Pratico, who brings over 30 years of experience in muralism. The mentorship is funded by Wayne and Lucretia Weiner, Florida Purchasing Agency, and Dara and Jarett Levan.

Five emerging mural artists will be selected to participate in this hands-on mentorship program. Each selected artist will receive up to $5,000 in stipend for a minimum of 100 painting hours, general liability insurance coverage reimbursement ($250-$350 value), and their name included on the mural. Throughout the project, mentees will work closely with Lori Pratico, participating in brainstorming sessions, design development, and mural execution. Team Zoom meetings will cover proposal creation, insurance application, pricing, budgeting, material selection, anti-graffiti coatings, and best practices. Continued career support will be available after project completion.

Eligibility: Artists must be 18 years or older, based in Broward, Dade, Palm Beach, or Monroe counties with transportation to the site, and have completed between 1-5 murals or 3-5 large artworks on canvas (36" x 38" or larger). Artists with more than 5 public works will not be considered. Applicants must submit 8-10 images of current work and a written letter of interest. Work is scheduled for mid-late September through October 2025, requiring a minimum of 100 hours on-site over approximately 10-15 days, working 7-9 hours per day, 5-6 consecutive days per week, weather permitting. An information session will be held via Zoom on May 15, 2025 at 6:00pm. To register, email [email protected].
