About This Call

The 2009 printmaking competition is dedicated to the idea that printmaking as a tradition is alive and well in the world of contemporary art. The competition is open to all undergraduate students of fine arts who have been enrolled in an undergraduate program during the 2007 and/or 2008 calendar years. As this is an international call for entries, students of any country or nationality are encouraged to apply.

In a contemporary environment, there is no set criteria as to what constitutes printmaking. Applicants who consider their work to include printmaking as a medium and to be a continuation of the printmaking tradition are encouraged to apply. The jury consists of: Lynne Allen (Director, School of Visual Arts, Boston University), Joan Hall (Professor of Art, Printmaking Department, Washington University in St. Louis), Mary Hood (Assistant Professor, Arizona State University), Donna Moran (Chair, Fine Arts, Pratt Institute), and Joe Sanders (Chair, Department of Art, Florida State University).

Entries are accepted between January 11, 2009 and March 15, 2009. The submission fee is $35.00 USD per entry. Five winners will each receive $10,000 awards. The top 100 printmaking entries will be published in a catalogue. Winners will be announced by May 30th, 2009. Exhibitions celebrating the event winners will be held in the summer of 2009 (dates to be determined). All participants will be invited to show their work on a private social networking site. For questions, contact 646.688.5379 or [email protected].
