Beyond Walls Public Art Exhibition 2019

Beyond Walls is a celebration of art in public spaces organized by the Cornelius PARC Department and the Cornelius Public Art Committee. Selected works will be installed in a park setting or in the downtown arts district and will be on exhibit from May 2019 through January 2020.

This exhibition is open only to freestanding art; proposals for murals or pieces that must attach to a wall are not accepted. Any materials may be used as long as the sculpture is prepared for weather exposure and will not deteriorate during the duration of the show. Wind gusts up to 50mph should be considered, as the site is located within close proximity to Lake Norman. The committee is looking for pieces of various sizes, with preferred dimensions up to 20' in width and up to 12' in height. Individual pieces, outdoor art installations, and groupings of smaller pieces are all welcome.

Applicants must submit a resume, bio, and up to 3 images of 3 unique pieces, including dimensions, weight, and installation needs for each piece. Entry fee is $25. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend for participating in the show, with payment issued once installation is complete and approved by the Town of Cornelius. The winner of the People's Choice Award will receive an additional $1,000 prize. Artists are required to transport and install their art at their own expense, though the Town will offer assistance in unloading and installing work by appointment if needed. A valid Certificate of Insurance with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage per incident or occurrence, listing the Town of Cornelius as an additional insured, is required by March 1, 2019. Selected artists will be notified by February 15, 2019, and must complete and return participation forms by March 1, 2019.
