About This Call
Beyond Walls is a celebration of art in public spaces organized by the Cornelius PARC Department and the Cornelius Public Art Committee. Selected works will be installed at Robbins Park at 17738 West Catawba Ave in Cornelius, NC from May 2018 through January 2019. The park offers significant visitor traffic and high visibility from a major town road with over 25,000 trips per day.
This exhibition is open to freestanding art only; proposals for murals or wall-attached pieces will not be accepted. Any materials may be used as long as the sculpture is prepared for weather exposure and will not deteriorate during the show duration. Wind gusts up to 50mph should be considered as the site is located near Lake Norman. The committee seeks pieces of various sizes with preferred dimensions up to 20' in width and up to 12' in height. Individual pieces, outdoor art installations, and groupings of smaller pieces are all welcome.
Applicants must submit a resume, bio, and up to 3 images of unique pieces including dimensions, weight, and installation needs. A panel of town staff, Public Art Committee members, art professionals, curators, and Cornelius citizens will select approximately 10 pieces. Selected artists will receive notification by February 16, 2018, and must complete participation forms by March 1, 2018, including a Certificate of Liability Insurance with a minimum of $1,000,000 in coverage. Artists will receive a $1,000 stipend upon installation completion. The People's Choice Award winner, selected by the viewing public, will receive an additional $1,000 prize. Installation occurs April 9-20, with a public opening reception on May 5, 2018. Artists are responsible for transporting and installing their work, though the Town may offer assistance by appointment. Contact: [email protected] or 704-896-8823.
