Beyond the Surface

Members of the Surface Design Association (SDA) are invited to submit work for Beyond the Surface: Surface Design Association Annual International Juried Members Exhibition, held in partnership with the St Louis Artists' Guild in St Louis, MO from September 20, 2019 through October 23, 2019. The exhibition will be on view during Innovations in Textiles 2019 and the SDA Biennial Conference. Jurors are Jo Stealey and Jim Arendt. The exhibition includes awards.

This exhibition is open to all SDA members working in all media. Up to two artworks may be submitted per artist. 2D, 3D, and video works are eligible. Work must have been completed since 2017. Work executed under classroom/educational guidance or supervision is not eligible. Entry fee: $40 for SDA members/$20 for SDA student-members. Accepted works must be available for the duration of the exhibition. No substitutions may be made.

Submissions must include up to 2 artworks total (2D, 3D, or video). 2D and 3D work requires full and detail images in JPEG format only (minimum 1200 pixels on longest side, 72 ppi/dpi, maximum 5 MB). Video submissions must not exceed 100 MB per sample. Each image must be titled as "Submission #/ Last name/ Title." Include a brief artist statement (50-100 words maximum). Wall-mounted artwork shall not exceed 98"h x 84"w or weigh more than 40lbs. 3D artwork must not exceed 84" x 60" x 60" or weigh more than 75 lbs. Ceiling suspended work components must not weigh more than 10 lbs. Artists must provide all equipment if there is an electrical component to the work. Entries are submitted online through CaFÉ with a deadline of June 7, 2019. Notification of acceptance is July 7. Selected artwork must arrive at St Louis Artists' Guild between August 24-September 7. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the venue. A 50% gallery commission will be charged for sold work. Awards include First Place ($500), Second Place ($300), Third Place ($150), Honorable Mention, People's Choice Award, and SDA Award of Excellence (one-year digital membership to SDA).
