About This Call
Gallery One Visual Arts Center announces their sixth national juried exhibition in the category of book arts. Entries will be accepted from across the nation and juried by Lisa Myers Bulmash and Ed Marquand for inclusion in a month-long exhibition in April 2020 in the main gallery of Gallery One in downtown Ellensburg, WA. Opportunities for lectures, workshops, and/or special events may be offered to select artists to accompany the exhibition.
Book Arts is defined as the field of art that involves the creation of works using or referring to structural and conceptual properties of books. While an existing book may be altered to create a work, works in the genre of book arts are intended as artworks themselves. Entries must be original works completed within the last five years and cannot be completed under the direction of an instructor or as a matriculated student. Open to all artists 18 years and older residing in the USA. Maximum of 6 artwork entries per artist. Entry fee: $20 for first entry, $10 each additional entry.
Awards totaling $800 will be distributed: $300 for Most Innovative Artwork, $200 for Best Traditional Approach to Book Arts, $200 for Best Non-Traditional Approach to Book Arts, and $100 for Award of Merit. Jury result notifications will be sent via email by March 7, 2020. Accepted entries must be identical to submitted images. Artwork is not required to be for sale; artists who list work for sale will receive a 60% commission of the retail value via check within a month after the close of the show. Images of accepted works will be posted on the gallery website. Contact Gallery One at 509-925-2670 or [email protected] with questions.
