About This Call

Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places, on behalf of the City of Miami Gardens, seeks qualifications from professional artists to design a series of suspended acoustical panels for the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex's aquatic center. The project budget is $156,215.

The 56,000 square foot community center is located at 3000 NW 199 St., Miami Gardens, FL 33056, two blocks from Sun Life Stadium. The facility includes a state-of-the-art gym, dance studios, aquatic center, basketball court, computer lab, auditorium, arts and crafts classrooms, and recreational spaces on 24 acres adjacent to a lake. The architecture was inspired by the Miami Modernist (MiMo) movement. The indoor aquatic center features an "L" shaped pool with a bright yellow 12' circular slide and 17' soaring ceilings used for recreational swimming and aquatic aerobics.

Artists must design suspended acoustical panels that are durable, resistant to the corrosive indoor pool environment, and capable of absorbing sound. The panels should be installed predominantly above the concrete deck area surrounding the pool. The artist is responsible for all costs including design, engineering, fabrication, installation, and implementation within the $156,215 budget. The selected artist must work collaboratively with a reputable panel manufacturer with indoor pool installation experience and adhere to the project schedule: application deadline July 23, 2010; initial PAC meeting August 2010; finalist interviews October 2010; design completion November 2010; fabrication completion December 2010; project completion February 2011. Finalists will receive a $750 honorarium to develop proposals. Eligibility is open to experienced professional artists residing in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Miami-Dade employees, City of Miami Gardens employees, selection panelists, and their immediate family members are excluded. Submit 10 images of previously completed work via CaFÉ online application system at www.callforentry.org. There is no application fee. Contact Brandi Reddick at 305.375.5436 or [email protected] for additional information.
