About This Call
The City of Glenwood Springs Better Together Mural Project 2.0 is the second annual mural project bringing publicly accessed original artwork to the downtown core. Selected artists and artist groups will paint original designs on pre-identified electrical boxes and façades of City-owned buildings over a two-week period in a festival-style format. Community members will have the opportunity to interact with artists and watch murals come to life. The public is also invited to create an inspirational community mural in the downtown core.
Artists across Colorado are invited to submit a design that captures the spirit and culture of Glenwood Springs and amplifies the idea of Better Together. Submissions should contribute to the City's Public Art Plan goals: connect people to community identity, celebrate the natural environment, connect to wellness culture, build on heritage, extol cultural diversity, engage playfulness and whimsy, and create place-based economic development. Submissions will be juried by the Arts and Culture Board, which will match artists with surfaces to be painted (electrical box, community mural, or façade). Participating artists receive a stipend: $500 for electrical box muralists (8 positions), $1,750 for one wall muralist (8 x 11 panel), and $600 for one community mural designer/educator.
Eligibility: Artists must be full-time Colorado residents available to paint September 15 - October 1, 2023. Artists must have previous experience painting medium to large-scale murals, except artists ages 13-17 (who must be accompanied by an adult). All submitting artists must be over age 13. Submit one image of the proposed design and an artist statement describing how the design connects with the theme of Better Together. No submission fee. Deadline: July 31, 2023, 11:59 PM MDT.
