About This Call
Denver Public Art seeks to commission one artist or artist team to create public artworks for Bethesda Park, which will be one of Denver's newest parks in the Denver Parks and Recreation system. The goal of the project is to commission a series of artworks that celebrate the history and culture of the area and its landmarks, highlights the neighborhood's connection to nature and the environment, and emphasizes the importance of the community's health and wellbeing. The commission amount is $90,000.00 USD.
The selection panel is seeking artists who work in mediums suitable for exterior spaces and can creatively tell the story of the park and neighborhood through a series of pedestrian-scaled artworks. The panel is interested in artwork that evokes joy and happiness, creates a sense of belonging, and reflects health and wellness values. Different sensory experiences are encouraged. The panel is open to artwork in media and materials that complement the park, including stone, rock, metal, wood, and recycled natural materials suitable for outdoor display.
This new two-acre park will provide passive and active recreation opportunities including a playground and basketball court, an interpretive garden featuring pollinator species, seating and shade, bike racks and other amenities. The artwork will become a permanent addition to the Denver Public Art collection and must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials. Three to five artists/artist teams will be selected as finalists and will receive $90,000 to cover all costs including design fee, materials, fabrication, installation, and associated expenses.
