Beneath the Surface

Gallery 114 invites artists to explore "Beneath the Surface," an exhibition examining the hidden layers in artwork—both in process and content. The call asks: What is clearly revealed and what is implied, assumed, or guessed in your work? How do you disclose the hidden parts of life through your creative practice? Gallery 114 is artist-owned, artist-run, and encourages both emerging and established artists to take risks and explore new creative efforts with underlying quality and integrity.

All 2 and 3 dimensional media are welcome. Individual works should not exceed 7 feet in height and 5 feet in width. Prices for a single piece should not exceed $5,000. The entry fee is $30 for up to three submissions. All work must be original and installation-ready, framed or encased with appropriate hanging hardware and installation instructions. Artists must hand-deliver work by Saturday, June 1, 2024, between 12-5 pm (individual accommodations may be arranged upon request). The exhibition opens on First Thursday, June 6, 2024, 5-8 pm, and runs through June 29, 2024, open to the public Thursday-Sunday, 12-5 pm. Work will also be accessible on the gallery website.

Gallery 114 will insure works on site for the market value indicated in entries, up to $5,000 per piece. All sales are handled through Gallery 114 with a 35% commission. Artists must pick up work between 4-5 pm on June 29 or 10 am-12 pm on June 30, 2024. Notification of acceptance is May 6, 2024. Eligibility is open to persons 18 years or older within the Portland Metropolitan area and region. Submit up to three images with title, size, medium, price, and a brief description of how your work reflects the theme through CAFÉ at CallForEntry.org by May 3, 2024, at 11:59 pm MDT.
