Below the Surface II

Below the Surface II is an open juried national exhibition exploring what we know about the ocean and what we are still discovering through art and artistic expression. The exhibition seeks work in all media that addresses ocean science, currents, ocean life, how oceans interact with the atmosphere, how populations depend on the oceans as their food source, and how the balance of the ocean environment is threatened by human impact. The exhibition attempts to demonstrate how the ocean affects our environment and will display work that calls attention to the impact of the ocean on our lives, what we can learn from it, and how it affects the earth's inhabitants.

Eligibility: Any artist 18 years or older may participate. All 2D and 3D media is eligible. Artwork previously exhibited with ALRI is not permitted. All work must be original and exhibition ready to install. Maximum size is 40" wide and 60" high including frame. 3D work must have an overall footprint of 40" x 60" or less with a weight limit of 100 lbs. Installation pieces and digital artwork must include detailed descriptions of electrical, lighting, space requirements, and technical equipment.

Entry fee is $35 for up to 3 pieces. Work samples may include up to 3 images, 3 audio files, and/or 3 video files (minimum 1 total sample required). The exhibition will be displayed at Art League RI Gallery (80 Fountain Street, Suite 107A, Pawtucket, RI 02860) from June 1-27, 2022, and continued at The University of Rhode Island's Providence Campus Gallery (80 Washington Street, Providence, RI 02903) from July 5-28, 2022. In-person delivery of accepted work is May 21, 23-24, 2022. Shipped deliveries must arrive by May 18, 2022, with a $15 handling fee required. Sales are encouraged; ALRI takes 30% commission from members and 40% from non-members, with artist payment within 30 days after exhibition closes.
