About This Call
The Whatcom Museum seeks submissions for the Bellingham National 2019 Juried Art Exhibition and Awards, themed "Water's Edge." The museum is accepting two-dimensional artworks from artists for whom landscape serves as an important inspiration. Submissions should evidence an investigation of contemporary art practices and address understandings of the Earth, climate change, and the evolving relationships of humanity to nature. Works may range from traditional interpretations of the observed landscape to metaphoric and spiritual manifestations through image, language, and mapping of responses to nature and the world. Time-based and site-specific installations or performances are not eligible due to exhibition space considerations.
Eligibility is national. Artists may submit up to three digital images of original work completed within the last two years. All two-dimensional artworks must be ready for display with hanging devices/hardware attached and must not exceed 50 lbs when crated or packaged. The entry fee is $35. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance costs both to and from the museum. Accepted artworks must be delivered between January 9–18, 2019. The exhibition runs February 2 – May 19, 2019, with an exhibition reception on February 1.
The juror is Bruce Guenther, an independent curator and art historian specializing in post-war American and European art. Awards include 1st place $2,000, 2nd place $1,000, 3rd place $500, and a Popular Award of $500. Artists will be notified of selection by December 18–19, 2018. Contact [email protected] for questions.
