About This Call
Bellingham National 2023 Juried Art Exhibition and Awards: Acts of Healing and Repair
The Whatcom Museum seeks submissions from artists of all backgrounds responding to the theme of healing for this fourth biennial juried exhibition. The exhibition will take place at the Whatcom Museum's Lightcatcher building in Bellingham, Washington, opening to the public November 12, 2023, and running through February 25, 2024. Guest juror Grace Kook-Anderson, the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Northwest Art at the Portland Art Museum, will select works for the exhibition. This call is open to any artist residing in the greater United States.
Artists may submit up to three artworks for consideration, with only one artwork per application (plus an optional detail shot). Each artwork submission will be judged individually. Artists submitting multiple artworks must submit three separate applications. The entry fee is $35 (one-time fee); a waive fee code (BHAMNAT2023) can be applied to waive fees for second and third submissions. All art must be original, completed within the last two years, and available through the entire exhibition run. Artists may submit works from a broad range of media and styles. A current resume and optional artist's statement (no more than 1,000 characters) should be included.
Awards: 1st Prize $2,500; 2nd Prize $1,500; 3rd Prize $1,000; Popular Award $500. The first prize winner will receive a spotlight solo exhibition at the museum. Accepted artists will be announced by September 25, 2023. Artwork must be received at the museum between October 23-28, 2023. All two-dimensional artworks must be ready for display with hanging devices/hardware attached. Weight limit per crated or packaged work is 50 lbs. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs both to and from the museum and must include prepaid return shipping or FedEx account number with incoming shipment. Entry deadline: August 11, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
