About This Call
The Whatcom Museum is seeking submissions for the Bellingham National 2017 Juried Art Exhibition and Awards, an exhibition focused on drawing practice. The exhibition runs June 10 - September 10, 2017. Artists are invited to submit work for whom drawing is an important aspect of their practice. Submissions may explore traditional uses of drawing as well as newer ideas including language, writing, notation, mapping, movement, dance, performance, and connections to space and architecture. Drawing may involve traditional or non-traditional materials and approaches, and can include time-based and site-specific installations or performances.
The exhibition will be juried by Catharina Manchanda, Jon and Mary Shirley Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Seattle Art Museum. Awards include: 1st Place $2,000; 2nd Place $1,000; 3rd Place $500; and Popular Award $500. The entry fee is $35. Artists may submit up to four digital images of original work completed within the last two years. A current resume and optional artist statement (no more than 1000 characters) should be included. Videos (single-channel only) may be submitted as video-still jpgs with Vimeo/YouTube links provided in the image description.
Artists whose work is accepted will be notified by email and the CaFÉ website by the week of March 20. Artwork must be shipped between May 1-19, 2017. All two-dimensional artworks should be ready for display with hanging devices included. The weight limitation for each crated or packaged work must not exceed 50 lbs. Single-channel videos must be provided on both a USB thumb drive and DVD. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance costs both to and from the museum and must include either a prepaid return shipping label or FED EX account number with incoming shipments.
