About This Call
The Beaverton Arts Commission seeks qualifications from professional artists and artist teams for a permanent artwork in a prominent location at City Park, the cultural heart of Beaverton. The site is a large green space adjacent to Oregon's largest farmers market and across the street from the Beaverton City Library. The 45' x 40' site is flat with nearby overhead lighting and is highly visible from adjoining streets, visited by thousands of people daily.
The total budget is $50,000, inclusive of all materials, artist fees, installation, travel and transportation. Open to professional artists or artist teams living or working in the United States or British Columbia, Canada. Applicants must submit an artist's statement (not exceeding 2000 characters), 10 digital images (1920 x 1920 pixels) illustrating similar completed projects, a resume (not to exceed 2 pages), and contact information for 2 professional references. Up to three finalists will be selected to develop a full proposal and present it to the selection committee. Each finalist or team will receive a $750 honorarium plus a travel allowance. Finalist selection is October 30, 2009, with proposal presentations in December 2009 and installation to be completed fall 2010.
All materials must be appropriate to the outdoor setting, durable, permanent, and free of precious or fragile materials. The artwork should be easily maintained and meet all public safety and accessibility requirements. Sustainable materials and technology are encouraged. Selection criteria include successful completion of similar creative projects, mastery in artistic media, strong communication and organizational skills, and ability to work within an established budget.
