About This Call

In times of crisis and transition, beauty serves not as an escape but as an essential act of resistance and renewal. This juried exhibition explores beauty's transformative power to inspire awe, foster connection, and envision flourishing futures. Beauty operates on multiple levels: as resistance to dehumanization, as a catalyst for wonder that connects us to something larger than ourselves, and as a foundation for human flourishing alongside community, sustainability, and dignity. The exhibition invites artists to submit works that engage with beauty as an act of resistance, renewal, and reimagining.

The juried gallery exhibition is open to all media, including painting, sculpture, installation, printmaking, photography, video, audio works, and the written word. Artists may submit up to 5 artworks with an artist statement for each work. All accepted work must be ready to hang or display. Two-dimensional work must have a braided picture wire on the back, and fragile media should be under plexiglass. Installation art must be prepared by the artist or include detailed instructions. The gallery has a flat screen video and access to some types of video equipment, including a projector. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the gallery and must provide a prepaid return shipping label.

The exhibition runs May 6-July 21, 2025 at the Cade Art Gallery, located at 101 College Parkway on Anne Arundel Community College's Arnold campus. Artwork drop-off is April 21-25, 2025. The public reception and juror talk is May 6, 5-7pm. Entry fee is $20. Artists must be 18 or older. The juror is Philippa Pham Hughes, a social sculptor, educator, and speaker. Notification of selected artists is March 17, 2025.
