About This Call
The Community Redevelopment Agency of Jacksonville Beach is seeking proposals for a permanent public art structure at the corner of the roundabout located at Beach Blvd. and 2nd Street in Jacksonville Beach, FL. The piece should highlight the pedestrian-friendly, beach life, and growing entrepreneurial spirit of Jacksonville Beach. The Agency envisions a statement piece that serves as a focal point into the Downtown district and a welcoming area where citizens and visitors can congregate in an engaging and safe manner. The structure should utilize materials that all ages can engage with and enjoy, and the artist should be well versed in working within the site's elements.
Applicants must have experience creating, fabricating, and installing public art, with proven ability to work with durable outdoor materials including stone, metal, wood, concrete, found objects, natural materials, plastics, fiberglass, light, and sound. Artists must be available to visit the site in person for potential client engagement during the project period, be over 18 years old, and maintain general commercial liability insurance. Upon completion, the artist must provide maintenance on the installation for one calendar year.
Submissions must include an artist statement, current resume emphasizing public art experience, a minimum of 3 completed projects with up to 8 images and 2 videos, a colorized sketch or computer rendering of the concept design shown from front, back, and side with dimensions, and a narrative describing artwork symbolism, intention, and technical detail (500-word maximum). Total budget is $150,000.00, which includes all costs to the artist: artwork proposals, engineering, permitting, fabrication, shipping, delivery, storage, insurance, travel, lighting, and installation. Payment schedule: 25% upon contract signing, 25% upon final design approval.
