Basalt Willits Town Center Roundabout Sculpture

The Town of Basalt, through BPAC, seeks an artist's plan for a unique, permanent three-dimensional sculpture in the landscaped roundabout at the entry to Willits Town Center in West Basalt, at the gateway from Highway 82 to East Valley Road and Willits Lane. The artwork will become part of Basalt's public-art inventory and should capture the atmosphere, energy, and architectural character of the modern, walkable, mixed-use Willits Town Center. The sculpture must be appropriately scaled to the site and must not block drivers' sightlines; the sculpture pad may be no more than 30 feet in diameter. It will be affixed to a level concrete pad created by Town staff, with the artist responsible for specifying a safe attachment method. Materials must withstand Basalt's mountain climate and must not significantly reflect light in a way that creates a driver-safety concern. The artwork should require minimal maintenance, with maintenance frequency, products, and other long-term requirements described. The selected proposal is reviewed by BPAC and Town staff and approved by Basalt Town Council; installation is anticipated in spring-summer 2027, date TBD.
