Barkley Regional Airport Feature Wall Artwork

Barkley Regional Airport (PAH) in Paducah, Kentucky is commissioning an artist or artist team to create a site-specific work of art for the airport ticketing area. The Feature Wall is located in the Ticketing/Security Checkpoint area, approximately 34 feet wide and 7 feet 4 inches tall. The wall is a focal point for the terminal, welcoming visitors and serving as a prominent feature as passengers move through ticketing and security checkpoints. The budget for the entire project is not to exceed $100,000.

To be eligible, artists must currently live or have previously lived within 50 miles of Barkley Regional Airport. Up to three finalists will be selected to develop concept proposals. Finalists will receive a $1,500 stipend to attend an orientation, develop a site-specific concept proposal including renderings, narrative description, budget, and timeline, and present to the Art Committee. Depending on the selected artist's concept, PAH may contract with the selected artist for fabrication and installation or may contract with an outside contractor, with all costs remaining within the $100,000 project budget. Artwork should be fabricated with durable, low-maintenance materials such as glass, tile, or metal, or if made from fragile materials, should include custom high-quality glazing for protection.

Applications are due July 11, 2022. An optional Pre-Application Workshop will be held virtually on June 30, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. CST. Applicants must submit 5-10 images and up to 5 videos. The tentative timeline includes Art Committee qualification reviews in July 2022, finalist orientation in August 2022, concept proposal presentations in November 2022, and final design, fabrication, and installation from November 2022 through March 2023.
