Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center Sculpture Project

This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) seeks sculptural art pieces for four specific locations at the Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Artists are invited to submit qualifications (a portfolio of comparable past projects) for one or more of the following locations: Building Entrance, Side of Building Visible from Lobby, Building Courtyard, or Corner Park on Building Campus.

Eligibility is open to individuals 18 years of age and older residing in the United States, and artist teams are acceptable. Submission packages must include 4-8 images of completed sculptures, information on each image including location, dimensions, material, cost and date of completion, and a current artist resume and website if available. Projects in process may be included, but the majority of images must show completed work. There is no submission fee. Up to three artists will be selected as finalists for each site-specific sculpture project; finalists will receive a small stipend to produce a site-specific proposal including design, drawings, specifications and budget.

General specifications require sculptures to be appropriate to their specific location and the architects' vision, suitable for high traffic environments, designed with consideration of patient and public safety, constructed of permanent long-lasting materials that are virtually maintenance free, structurally secured to concrete or masonry substrate, and capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions. Location 1 (Building Entrance) and Location 2 (Side of Building Visible from Lobby) each have a delivered purchase price of up to $50,000. Location 3 (Building Courtyard) has a delivered purchase price of up to $50,000. Location 4 (Corner Park on Building Campus) has a delivered purchase price of up to $100,000. Purchase prices must cover all associated costs including design, fabrication, materials, labor, transportation, insurance and installation. Site preparation, lighting and footing will be provided by Baptist Health. The anticipated timeline includes finalist notification by December 15, 2016, final design proposals due February 13, 2017, final artist selection by March 13, 2017, and sculpture installation completion by March 26, 2018, with unveiling and dedication in April/May 2018.
