Banging On The Machine

This exhibition explores how individuals balance the weight of the world's sorrows with the peace and comfort of their own lives. The call invites artists to examine how we reconcile unbearable tragedy existing in the world with our own particular place, drawing inspiration from Hayden Carruth's poem "The Curtain," which equates winter with cold, brutal darkness while a cozy cabin represents our relatively comfortable lives. Artists are encouraged to explore whether we can turn a blind eye to "the machine," avoid news and social media, and escape into the joy of winter holidays, or whether we should feel guilt for not actively resisting and fighting. The exhibition runs December 8, 2023 to January 6, 2024.

Entry fee is $35.00. Artists must submit 1-3 images and may submit up to 1 video (total of 1-3 work samples). Eligibility is limited to local artists in Colorado. Art must be delivered in person and picked up in person; work that requires shipping is not eligible. Measurements provided on the application must be correct, as the gallery reserves the right to reject oversized work.
