About This Call
Bellevue Arts Museum is seeking artists, craftsmen, designers, and makers working in glass for BAM Biennial 2018: BAM! Glasstastic, a juried biennial exhibition. The BAM Biennial occurs every two years and focuses on established and emerging Northwest artists and craftsmen, emphasizing current and new work. Proposals for new work are strongly encouraged. The exhibition recognizes innovative work by contemporary Northwest makers and celebrates the region's distinctive character. Entrants are invited to approach glass as a medium—whether through traditional or non-traditional perspectives—where concepts of art, craft, and design merge.
Eligibility is limited to artists currently residing, working, or studying in the Pacific Northwest region, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Montana, and British Columbia. Artists may be of any age and at any level of recognition. Submission deadline is March 19, 2018. The $40 application fee includes submission of 10–20 digital images of past work, a project proposal (up to 400 words), resume, image checklist, and any supporting documentation. A panel of five jurors will select approximately 30–40 artists to participate. Selected artists will be notified in early April 2018 and will have roughly six months to complete their projects for delivery in mid to late-October 2018.
The exhibition runs November 9, 2018 through April 14, 2019. Two awards will be presented: the John & Joyce Price Award of Excellence ($5,000 cash prize plus possible solo exhibition within 2 years) selected by BAM Curatorial staff, and the Samuel and Patricia Smith Peoples' Choice Award ($5,000 cash prize) based on visitor votes. All work must be original and not previously exhibited. Bellevue Arts Museum will insure all works during the exhibition and has the right to photograph works for promotional purposes. Artists are responsible for delivery and return shipping costs, though the Museum offers reimbursement up to $250 for documented shipping expenses.
